Day 7: Monday, 05/14/18, Clarksdale to Senatobia, MS

Map of today's ride:

Distance of Today's Ride: 62.6 miles
Trip Total Distance: 526.3 miles
Elevation Gain:  1115 feet
Riding Time:  4:05 hrs:mins

After the last three days of riding 90, 100, and 80 miles, today's ride of 62 miles went quickly. The warm weather and humidity were the primary difficulty encountered during these rides. Today for the majority of our riding time, the temperature was between 88 and 94 degrees. I think we are becoming somewhat acclimated to the temperature and humidity, but even today, I drank about six twenty ounce bottles of water during the little over 4 hour ride.

Tomorrow we will ride into Memphis, Tennessee, leaving Mississippi behind us. We are looking forward to the change in States, hoping for a little different scenery and smoother highways!

Not many pictures today other than some roadside scenes:

We have seen a lot of horses on the roads we are traveling.
A typical road today. Not a very wide shoulder, but also very few cars were using the road.

Agriculture is Mississippi's number one industry, employing approximately 29% of the states workforce either directly or indirectly.  Agriculture in Mississippi is a 7.6 billion-dollar industry.  There are approximately 36,200 farms in the state covering 10.7 million acres.  The average size farm is 296 acres.  The top 5 crops include: 1. poultry/eggs, 2. forestry, 3. soybeans, 4. cotton and 5. corn.
I am not familiar with farming in this part of the USA, but have been constantly surprised by the large number of untilled and unplanted fields. Not sure if the crops will be planted and are just being spaced apart or if these fields will not be used this year.
This field has been tilled and appears to have been planted.
This field has been planted and the seed has sprouted. Again, I am not sure what has been planted, but wheat is grown in the area and it looks like it could be a small grain such as wheat.
