Day 8: Tuesday, 05/15/18, Senatobia, MS to Memphis, TN

Map of today's ride:

Distance of Today's Ride: 64.0 miles
Trip Total Distance: 590.3 miles
Elevation Gain:  2008 feet
Riding Time:  4:22 hrs:mins

Hot again, but what a beautiful day for a bicycle ride!  We left behind Mississippi State and entered Tennessee, 51 miles into today's ride. Tomorrow is our first "rest day" since we left New Orleans eight days ago. We have covered 590 miles in that time, averaging 74 miles a day which does include one day covering 100.1 miles. Overall, the scenery has been more diverse and interesting the last three days than the first five days.

Some pictures from today's ride:

Shade and low traffic country roads are always welcome!
Cynthia, a fellow rider from the San Francisco area, took this picture of us in front of the bright yellow wild flowers.  This picture was taken just prior to entering the Arkabutla Lake/Damn area of our ride.
A roadside home with a pretty setting on a large pond.
The official introduction to a beautiful scenic ride through the Arkabutla Lake area...
The lake appears to be high with the trees in the water.  What you also don't see are the picnic benches partially in the water.  Arkabutla Lake is a reservoir on the Coldwater River in Mississippi.  It is one of four flood damage reduction reservoirs in Northern Mississippi.  The annual visitation exceeds 2 million people.
Another view of Arkabutla Lake.

We have arrived in Memphis!
This is the view from the pool on the 9th floor of the Comfort Inn we are staying in for the next two night.

  2. Thanks for the recommendations John! We did Mud Island this morning and are about ready to hop on a Back Beat tour bus. I have seen the BPS pyramid, but not sure we will get to it this trip. Had a great dinner last night at Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street. Memphis is an interesting town!
