Day 06: Sunday, 05/13/18, Greenville to Clarksdale. MS

Map of today's ride:

Distance of Today's Ride: 80.2 miles
Trip Total Distance: 463.7 miles
Elevation Gain:  499 feet
Riding Time:  5:03 hrs:mins

It was another warm 80.2 mile ride today. Clear skies, friendly wind (for the most part) and a starting temperature of 78 degrees.  When we arrived in Clarksdale this afternoon we reached a high of 93 degrees.

Not many pictures today. The scenery was very similar to yesterday, but the real reason for the lack of pictures was Wayne's/Dad's camera was left at the first SAG stop and not back in our possession until after the ride. I will not mention which one was of us left the camera behind!

We are staying at a Comfort Inn in Clarksdale, MS tonight.  This hotel is definitely NOT meeting the "business class" motel standard that America by Bicycle advertises.  Tonight for dinner we are walking down the street to a Mexican restaurant.  TripAdvisor has it ranked #11 of 34 restaurants in Clarksdale so there is a little more hope for dinner than the motel.  We will see!

***UPDATE... the Mexican restaurant Atzimba was really good!!  The chips and salsa were fresh with just the right amount of heat.  The food was very good, beer cold and service was friendly and efficient!  If in town, we would eat here again.***

This is the SAG stop where the camera was mysteriously left behind by someone.  The silver trailer you see carries all our luggage from point A to B as well as some snacks and water.
This is one of two tables that are set up upon our arrival at a SAG stop.  The first one is for hand washing, water bottle refilling and a sign in sheet.  The sign in sheet helps the AbB staff keep track of our progress so no one is left behind.  The second table (shown above) has miscellaneous snacks to keep up our energy levels to finish the daily ride!  Mindy has been enjoying the apples/bananas with peanut butter as well as the dill pickles.  Dad likes the fresh oranges and fig cookies.
We thought this was a funny sight today, but maybe the heat was impacting our judgment?  This is one of two boats on a grassy area with "people" fishing.

The most well-known nickname for Mississippi is "The Magnolia State."  This nickname honors the stately beauty of the Magnolia trees of Mississippi.  The Magnolia is Mississippi's official state tree and the blossom is Mississippi's official state flower.

At the end of a ride, you will always find bikes parked in front of a McDonald's (or similar) restaurant.  The riders are inside enjoying a burger, fries or chocolate milkshake after their long ride!
