Day 2: Wednesday, 05/09/18, Gonzales to St. Francisville, LA

The map of today's ride:

Day 2 Distance Traveled: 61.5 miles
Trip Total Distance: 126.3 miles
Elevation gain: 773 feet
Riding Time: 4:19 hrs:mins

Today can be summed up with the following:
+ Rough roads
+ A hazardous shoulder to ride on (at times)
+ Road construction activities
+ Heavy traffic
= 1 Flat tire (Mindy)

In addition to the above, today was HOT!  The last 14 miles felt a lot longer.  Once we arrived in Saint Francisville, LA we had a nice group lunch at The Magnolia Cafe before exploring the town on bike.

Following are a few pictures from today.

Our bicycling route as we entered Baton Rouge, LA was adjacent to the LSU campus. We rode past Tiger Stadium, where many excellent LSU Tiger football teams have played over the years.
This is the Mississippi River waterfront in downtown Baton Rouge. The city has done a very nice job of taking advantage of its location on the river with this very useful public improvement.
This is the USS Kidd located on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. It was named after Rear Admiral Issac Campbell Kidd who was the senior most officer killed when the Japanese bombed the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.  Today it is the centerpiece of a memorial which serves to honor the men and women of our American armed forces.
This house built on stilts was located just within the city limits of St. Francisville, LA. We have seen a lot of stilt houses along the Mississippi River levies.

This was a pretty bayou next to the St. Francisville's western city limits. Also, this bayou is within a block of the house on stilts. Prone to flooding perhaps?

This is the Magnolia Cafe in St. Francisville, LA.  America by Bicycle provided lunch for all  the riders when they arrived early this afternoon. Mindy is getting ready to pedal down the road to tonight's motel.

In exchange for changing Mindy's flat tire today, she is doing a load of our laundry tonight!

  1. When I was a senior in high school, one of my classmates changed his name to “how to change a flat tire?” [including the question mark] and would not answer to anything else. A little trivia there for ya.
